Contract Action Team (CAT)

What is the Contract Action Team (CAT)?

It is going to take all ~4,900 Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAPs) working together to enforce our contract. In every department, building, and UC campus, thousands of SSAPs shape bargaining priorities and take action to improve our workplace rights. SSAPs are forming our own Contract Action Team (CAT) in order to build the strong participation needed to make progress on key issues like fair wages, improved benefits, workload protections, and more. The role of everyone on the CAT is to make sure your coworkers stay informed and engaged to enforce our strong contract.

What do CATs do?

Members of the Contract Action Team commit to:

• Publicly participate: be a visible union supporter, wear union gear, etc.
  
• Keep others informed: talk to coworkers about becoming members, workplace issues, answer questions, and address concerns.
• Engage coworkers: make sure colleagues know the stakes of enforcing our contract, are participating in shaping and voting on bargaining priorities, and are coming together to put pressure on UC through sign-on letters, rallies, and other forms of collective action—up to and including a strike if justified and necessary
• Expand the CAT: identify coworkers who can do all of the above in their own school, department, center, or office suite.

Who are CATs and how do I join?

CAT members are a growing group of hundreds of workers across all 10 UC campuses and the dozens of job titles included under SSAP-UAW. Anyone can become a part of the CAT and/or recommend a colleague they believe should be! Get started by signing up for a 30-minute training on the basics and what comes next.
